Welcome to the APL Technical Services wiki!
We are building this wiki that all Technical Services staff may participate in developing a central site for the retention of instructions of APL & OWLSnet local procedures and processes regarding acquisitions, cataloging, physical processing and collection management. It is also a space to share information on the development and maintenace of the InfoSoup database. In addition, we will also include links out to other useful resources.
Our Mission Statement
To ensure appropriate, accessible and well-organized materials for library users, Technical Services provides acquisition, cataloging and processing of library materials, evaluations of collections and cataloging training services
Section Function:
Appleton Public Library's Technical Services staff coordinate and manage the selection, acquisition, cataloging, and processing of materials for the Appleton Public Library's collections. Cataloging follows international and local cataloging practices. Staff search for and contribute original and updated records to the OCLC WorldCat database for items obtained by the member libraries. Staff provide training in cataloging and item management to system library staff . Staff physically process and maintain materials for public use and historic preservation. Staff also maintain accounts to appropriately spend funds and to acquire materials according to established collection development guidelines.
